Nikolay Todorov: Keeping the entrepreneurial spirit alive as the business grows

Nikolay Todorov, CEO of the Bulgarian IT company SiteGround, took part in Digital Trends 2022. As a guest on The Power of Scalability panel, he shared critical moments in the development stages of the company, which is currently one of the world’s leading hosting businesses.

SiteGround is a Bulgarian company, an international leader in IT hosting technologies and services for websites. Established in 2004, it is one of the leading independent companies in its field of activity, with an established server infrastructure in Europe, Asia and the Americas that provides consistent and fast access to over 2.8 million customer websites worldwide. SiteGround is one of three companies the global WordPress website development platform recommends. SiteGround’s leadership team manages over 500 people in its offices in Sofia, Plovdiv and Stara Zagora. Thanks to its extensive commitment and investment, SiteGround has won over 20 awards as an employer and socially responsible company in Bulgaria in the last year alone.

The panel guests discussed the companies’ transition from the startup phase to the scaling phase. “At SiteGround, we have always been focused and consistent in our growth, it has never been an end in itself, but part of our desire to best and value fully meet market expectations and customer demand,” commented Todorov.

SiteGround’s CEO also shared the company’s substantial, differentiating competitive advantages as a leader.

“First and foremost is the engineering talent that we have in Bulgaria and in our company in particular, thanks to which we offer innovation in the industry. Second is the flexible solutions that are also cost-optimal. Third but not least is the first-class service we provide for our customers. We maintain a standard of 98% customer satisfaction.”

The Power of Scalability panel also discussed the topic of human capital, talent management and building a corporate culture in the face of business growth.

“It shouldn’t make a difference to a company’s corporate culture whether it has 5 people or 500 if shared values drive that culture. At SiteGround, our day started with breakfast and discussing tasks and ideas when we were five of us in an apartment, and it continues to be that way today in our three offices across the country when we are over 500 people. The feeling that you go to work eager, valued and contributing has not changed,” said Nikolay Todorov.
