Vangelis Stykas

Vangelis Stykas is a security researcher and the Co-Founder and CTO of kumio.ai, where he is building agentic AI solutions for the cybersecurity of critical infrastructure.

For nearly a decade, his research has focused on API and web application security, with a particular interest in the cloud infrastructure behind connected devices. His work has uncovered security flaws across a wide range of systems, including GPS trackers, satellite communications used by thousands of ships, smart car alarms, EV and solar chargers, smart locks, IP cameras, children’s smartwatches and enterprise cloud platforms.

More recently, Vangelis has turned the same investigative mindset toward the attackers themselves, compromising and monitoring infrastructure used to run ransomware and malware command-and-control operations. His latest research includes a 26-month investigation into North Korean hacking operations, giving him rare insight into the infrastructure, methods, mistakes and global reach of one of the world’s most opaque cyber operations.

He has presented his research at DEF CON, Black Hat, 44CON and BSides, and his work has been covered by TechCrunch, BBC and BleepingComputer.
